For many new-car owners in coastal Virginia, ceramic coating is worth it because it makes salt spray, pollen and road grime easier to wash off and keeps the gloss up with less effort. It doesn't stop rock chips or replace washing, and at Shine My Ride 757 it costs $1,400 to $3,400 by package and vehicle size.
What does ceramic coating actually do?
A ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat and leaves a slick, glossy layer on top of it. Water beads and sheets off, and dirt, salt film and pollen don't grip the paint as hard, so a normal hand wash takes less scrubbing. That matters on a new car, because less scrubbing means fewer chances to put swirl marks in fresh paint. The coating also helps the paint hold its shine between washes. As a System X partner, we prep the paint, apply the coating and walk you through aftercare at handoff.
What doesn't it do?
A coating isn't armor. It doesn't stop rock chips from I-64 or I-264 gravel, it won't fill deep scratches, and it doesn't mean you can skip washing. Bird droppings and tree sap still need to come off quickly. If chips on the hood and bumper are your main worry, read about paint protection film, which is a physical film rather than a coating. Plenty of owners pair the two: film on the high-impact areas and a coating everywhere else.
Why does coastal Virginia matter?
Cars here deal with a lot. Salt air near the Oceanfront and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel leaves a film that dulls paint, spring pine pollen coats everything yellow, and summer sun bakes all of it on. None of that ruins paint overnight, but it adds up when grime sits for weeks. A coated car rinses clean faster, so it's easier to keep up with regular washes in Virginia Beach, Norfolk or Chesapeake. Our Virginia Beach mobile detailing page covers how we work at your home or office.
Is a new car the best time to coat?
A new car is a good time to coat because the paint usually needs the least correction, so more of your budget goes into protection. New paint isn't always perfect, though. Dealer washes and transport can leave light swirls, so we inspect the paint first and tell you what prep it needs before we start. You can compare Silver, Gold and Platinum packages on our ceramic coating page, and every package and size is on the pricing page.
